About the Author
Bettye Keyes is the reporting industry’s first certified realtime voice writer to develop and author works related to speech-recognition-based realtime voice writing techniques and theories.
In 1999, she took a self-study approach to learning realtime voice writing, since, at that time, there were no schools teaching the method. In 2000, she became a Certified Court Reporter through the State of Louisiana and Certified Verbatim Reporter through the National Verbatim Reporters Association (NVRA). In 2001, she obtained her Realtime Verbatim Reporter certification through the NVRA, which required a passing score of over 96% accuracy for live transcription at speeds ranging between 180 to 200 words per minute.

Bettye A. Keyes, CCR, CSR, CVR-M, RVR
Bettye has used speech recognition technology from the inception of her career. Her realtime reporting experience, which began in the court reporting industry, led her to expand into the communications access realtime translation (CART) services and captioning arenas. She currently teaches online realtime training courses and works as a private consultant to corporations and firms throughout the United States and abroad, building realtime training programs across all voice writing disciplines. Bettye is also the founder of Realtime University, and, in addition, has produced training videos, written six other books on the topic of realtime voice writing and contributes her ideas and methods on an ongoing basis to cultivate the future of the realtime reporting profession through the advancement of realtime voice writing practices taught by educational institutions.
